The Young Center’s goal is to change the immigration system so that children in immigration proceedings are recognized as children, and best interests is made a part of the decision making process.
The Young Center conducts policy advocacy at the national level—with Congress and federal agencies—to incorporate the best interests of the child standard into practice, policy, and immigration law.
Thanks to the courageous efforts of undocumented immigrant youth, also known as DREAMERS, on June 15, 2012, President Obama announced a policy called “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” frequently called DACA. DACA is designed to provide temporary protection from the threat of deportation for certain undocumented young people living in the United States.
